About Us

Control Solutions, Inc. was formed in 2002 by Jim Winkelman, resuming the family business that had been sold following his father’s retirement in 1998. Like his father and grandfather, Jim has been a union steamfitter from the start. He was indentured in Madison Steamfitters Local 394 – now part of Local 601 – in 1983

With nearly 30 years in the industry, Jim has seen a lot of changes over the years. One thing that has been constant since before our present company was formed is Jim’s partnership with Schneider Electric and its predecessor companies. Control Solutions represents Schneider Electric’s Andover Continuum product line for HVAC and perimeter/access control, and Square D, offering of variable frequency drives and lighting control.

Our service technicians and construction specialists are proficient with all aspects of installing and maintaining the hardware and software to manage your buildings efficiently. Our construction projects range from controlling one or two doors, to utilizing all of the Continuum components in a multi-building campus in southern Wisconsin. Our service technicians, as well as our project and office managers, bring a tremendous amount of experience to our customers. We have 110 years of steamfitter experience!

Our expert team of service technicians have decades of experience in HVAC service and construction. Whatever the type of system – be it electronic, pneumatic, or digital – we service it. Some of the major product lines we work with are Andover, Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Robertshaw, Automated Logic Barber Coleman, and others.

Our technicians also serve as instructors in the Steamfitter Apprenticeship Program of Local 601, both in Madison and Milwaukee. From fin tubes to air handlers to boilers, our staff has the expertise and the resources to meet your HVAC needs. Our warehouse and trucks carry a service inventory of $250,000, and we maintain relationships with multiple vendors. Those relationships mean that even when the primary supplier doesn’t have a part in stock, we can often get it from an alternate source. This means less down time for our customers.

In addition to “as needed” service and maintenance, our company offers quarterly, semi-annual, and annual contracts for both Automatic Temperature Control and Mechanical components. We currently serve military bases, hospitals, schools, office buildings, fitness centers, nursing homes – these are just a few of the types of buildings we’ve worked on.

Modern, digital systems help our customers achieve maximum performance with maximum efficiency. Converting an outdated pneumatic system to a state-of-the-art digital system, coupled with controlling peak energy charges by using variable frequency drives, we work to ensure our customers get a great value for the dollars spent. With Continuum, the days of multiple programs – each managing a particular part of your building automation – are gone. Less training, fewer applications to buy and maintain, and more versatility: That’s the Continuum solution!
